Pride Toronto’s Interim Board of Director Application

Pride Toronto is seeking individuals to fill Interim roles on its Board of Directors. Individuals will serve with the full responsibilities of Board Members and can run for a full three-year term at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) or Special General Meeting (SGM).

We are recruiting people who support the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization and are passionate about serving the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Toronto and beyond. Pride Toronto supports our communities in the pursuit of our unequivocal rights to be known, be heard, be understood, be accepted, be respected, and to celebrate the beauty of who we are. 

It is critical that Pride Toronto’s Board of Directors represents the diversity of our community, and applicants with intersecting marginalized and racialized identities in our communities are encouraged to apply and will be prioritized in the selection process. We are also looking for candidates who demonstrate experience in the following areas:

– Legal
– Human Resources
– Non-profit Management
Community Engagement
– Financial Management
– Sponsorship and Fundraising

While we are actively working to reduce the time commitment required of Board members, we currently anticipate that Board members can expect to serve between 10-20 hours per month. Major priorities for the coming months include the hiring of an Executive Director, continuing our structural work (both internal and external) against anti-BIPOC racism and transphobia, and drafting and approving a budget for FY2021. 

While the Bylaw allows for Interim Board Members to be appointed by the Board, the current Board wants to ensure transparency and accountability in this process. Applicants will be evaluated based on skills, experience, and reflection of the diversity of our community. Pride will ensure that the final selection process reflects the needs and voices of the community and our commitment to an organizational anti-Black racism strategy.

Selected applicants will have their responses sent out to Pride’s membership for online voting in August. Those with the most votes will be appointed to the Board in an Interim role. Any Interim Board Member appointed can then run to be elected to a full three-year term by a membership vote at the next AGM/SGM, in accordance with our Bylaw.
