Community Café Application Form

Pride Week 2008 Community Café Application

Application Deadline: Friday, April 25, 2008. Late or incomplete application forms will not be accepted.

Before you begin, please ensure that you have read the information provided in the Opportunity Guide (PDF: 12MB).

One of Pride Toronto's goals is to increase overall community involvement during Pride Week. One of the ways in which we do this is to create a space for community groups to gather, socialize, perform and essentially run their own event. This space is called the Community Café.

The Community Café has traditionally featured many different community groups participating in events that ranged from Gen X Bears, to square dancing, to a Filipino arts and culture show.

The Community Café will be held on Saturday June 28th 2008. Applications from community groups are welcome.

The application form will ask you to identify the proposed length of your event, and time slots will be assigned accordingly.

Pride Toronto will provide a small stage/platform, microphones and sound equipment, along with tents, tables and chairs.

Community groups will plan and run their own events and return the site to a useable state when finished, ready for the next scheduled group.

Community groups holding events at the Community Café will have their event advertised in the Official Pride Guide.

Location
Community Café will be held at at Paul Kane Parkette, on Wellesley Street East, between Church and Yonge Street.

There is no charge to community groups for the use of the site. All events must be free of charge and open to everyone.

The Pride Toronto Community Café Committee will review all applications and select participant groups based on the following criteria in Pride Toronto’s Strategic Direction:

  1. Community Focus
  2. Involvement of Women
  3. Ethnocultural Diversity
  4. Pride Toronto Education and Outreach

Alcohol
The Community Café is not a licensed venue for the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages and all other controlled substances are not permitted within the official festival area at all, except within licensed entertainment areas only, as permitted by law. This year, the Community Café will also be in a designated Freezone area, a space that provides activities and support for those in recovery. We ask that all participants in Community Café respect this at all time.
