Can’t Stop The Spirit!

Sunday June 21 7:00pm

Join us for an exhilarating Pride Festival spiritual service for Toronto's LGBTTIQ2S communities, family and friends. Out guest speaker, The Honourable Reverent Rob Oliphant, M.P. - Don Valley West and a United Church Minister, will inspire us to connect with the Toronto's LGBTTIQ2S communities.

We welcome our amazing guest vocalist jazz, blues, and classical diva Alana Bridgewater, backed up by the Forte Men's Chorus, "Guys Like Us" and members of the Canadian Opera Chorus supporting St. Andrew's fantastic choir. Music will include remixed versions of Shall We Gather at The River, Amazing Grace (Bossa Nova style), You'll Never Walk Alone and fantastic classical choral selections. Consider this your invitation to our "Sanctuary In The City", a safe place in the Spirit.

Robert Oliphant

Rob Oliphant was first elected to the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Don Valley West in 2008. Rob understands the diversity of our country, and speaks passionately about our common values and shared aspirations. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, is currently serving as the Liberal Caucus' Intergovernmental Affairs Liaison with Queen's Park on Ontario Issues. Rob has a distinguished record of service as an advocate for at-risk youth, human rights, refugees, immigrants and seniors. In the past decade, Rob served in our community through his work as the Lead Minister at Eglinton St. George's United Church in Toronto, one of the largest United Church congregations in Canada.

 

Alana Bridgewater

 

Alana Bridgewater is a powerhouse vocalist and actor with an impressive list of jazz and theatre credits. She is presently performing the larger-than-life role of Killer Queen, the cold-hearted boss of Globalsoft in We Will Rock You. Alana began her career at very early age as a member of the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus and the Toronto Mendelssohn Youth Choir, where she was quickly promoted to soloist. She has toured with jazz great Joe Sealy and his quartet, was a member of the Nathaniel Dett Chorale and was the voice for Toronto's 2008 Olympic Bid Song. Her recent credits include In A Jam (CBC Television), Little Shop of Horrors (St. Lawrence Stage Company), Womens' Blues Revue in Toronto and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Stage West) and Menopause Outloud.
