Raging Asian Women
Opening our Wellesley stage this year is RAW, a diverse collective of East and South-East Asian women carrying on the North American taiko drumming tradition and promoting social justice while making music. The group integrates rhythm and movement to show a powerful expression of its members' experiences as Asian-Canadian women.
Maracatu vs. Samba Squad
Nobody will get left behind during the parade when these two groups each start collecting stragglers from opposite ends of church street meeting head to head at church/wellesley, and then straight to our TD Canada Trust Wellesley stage to give you a formidable persussive face off that will leave you thumping.
Maracatu is a Toronto based Afro-Brazilian percussion group lead by singer and main whistler Aline Morales, one of the most talented singers and percussionists in the scene today. Samba Squad is founded by award-winning percussionist Rick Shadrach Lazar, leading the band's original compositions and eclectic arrangements, and infusing them with the sound-power and street-feel of the drums of the Afro-Brazilian Samba tradition.
Carlos Bastidas
Winner of the Latin-American Achievement Award for Toronto's Best Musical Expression, Carlos Bastidas is an ambassador of Colombian music in Toronto, Canada. Carlos' music is best described as an innovative blend of traditional Colombian, Andean, and Jazz music.
Regeneration Tour
What do leg warmers, shoulder pads, parachute pants and neon all have in common? That¹s right, the 80's! Although the fashion of this time is something many of us hope to never experience again, the music from this decade is timeless. 80's Pop icons, ABC, Wang Chung, Missing Persons, and Cutting Crew are together and live in concert for the Regeneration Tour. With megahit songs such as ABC's Look of Love, Wang Chung's Everybody Have Fun Tonight, Missing Persons' Words and Cutting Crew's (I Just) Died in Your Arms, these bands are bringing the Œ80's back in style.
Kelly & The Kellly Girls
When Kelly and the Kellygirls' song and video for ‘Catherine Deneuve and the Deus ex Machina' became an international success in 2007 via youTube, mastermind, songwriter and leader R.Kelly Clipperton had affirmation that his work could reach greater audiences. Following the additional success of playing to 10 000 people in Trafalgar Square for London UK Pride, Kelly's Latin-influenced, beat-driven, multi-lingual show returns to Pride Toronto again to give us another knock out.
Adam Joseph
Is the world ready for Adam Joseph? Don't let the baby face fool you. This blue eyed soul singer has exploded onto the scene with a debut that has music insiders comparing him to the likes of Anita Baker, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu. His diverse background (hip hop + reggae + jazz + soul) vintage charm, and soft spoken charisma all foster this old souls unique style of musicianship.
Divine Brown
Toronto's Divine Brown finally gets the credit she's due with the release of the The Love Chronicles. After touring with the Backstreet Boys for their "Unbreakable Tour", having three hit singles (including an incredible cover of Corey Hart's Sunglasses At Night), Brown comes back to where it all started and take's her first step towards becoming our soul princess by closing this years' festival.
