CiRCA and Pride Toronto 2008 join forces to bring Toronto its first-ever Official Pride Week Closing Party
LAST DANCE

Pride Toronto 2008 in association with CiRCA, is pleased to announce the creation of the first official Pride Week 2008 closing party, Last Dance. The event is set to take place on Sunday June 29th, 10:00 p.m. and will feature artists from many of the diverse stages of the Pride Street Festival as well as talent specific to the event.

“Our mandate is to put together an outrageous, racy and fabulous event,” says Pride Toronto Executive Director Fatima Amarshi. “No one does that better than Peter Gatien and CiRCA. We’re thrilled to be partnering with CiRCA to offer the first ever Pride Week closing night party.”

Last Dance will be held throughout the four sound spaces of the award winning CiRCA entertainment venue. Headlining the event in the main space is internationally renowned singer / supermodel / drag artist RuPaul (www.rupaul.com). RuPaul is best known for his 1993 dance hit “Supermodel (You Better Work)” as well as many film and television appearances including his latest film Starrbooty. RuPaul also made history as the first drag artist turned supermodel when he became spokes-model for MAC cosmetics.

Also headlining the main space are Canadian new wave band Trans-X known for their 80’s hit “Living on Video”, and New York gay r&b artist Adam Joseph. Moving the dance floor throughout the evening will be New York legend DJ Billy Carroll and CiRCA resident DJ Jamal. There will also be a late night show by Toronto based performance artist Christabel.

Upstairs CiRCA’s art deco inspired Ballroom will play host to Toronto’s vibrant lesbian community. Cherry Bomb resident DJs Denise Benson and Cozmic Cat will be taking over the turntables for a tag team set along with Fierce Helder (of Fritz Helder and the Phantoms fame), and DJ Katey. Performing live will be Toronto indie band Dance Yourself to Death.

In addition, CiRCA’s other two spaces will showcase closing parties directly from the Pride Street Festival, with Blockorama taking over the Skyy Cinema Lounge, and the Alterna-Queer stage after-party in the Washroom Bar. Artists for the Blockorama 10-year anniversary party called “Ignite” will include gay rapper Deadlee, and House of Munro (Canada’s premier vogue group) as well as DJs Nik Red, Carma, Sanfran and Kani. The hip-hop, r&b, dance hall and soca vibes will be heightened with appearances from Drag Ball 2008 performers Amber Starr, Amailia Black, Reva Iman and Kenya Black. The youth oriented Washroom Bar will play host to Gangbang DJ's Countess Christsmasher and Andrew Awesome, DJ Triple-X, and a live performance by Leif.

“From my time in New York, I have always appreciated and encouraged a strong queer presence within all of my venues. I am thrilled that this partnership gives me the opportunity to give back and to create this celebration with Pride.” Exclaims Peter Gatien, owner and operator of CiRCA who is looking forward to this partnership with Pride Toronto.
